Montealegre - Ninja Scroll

Ninja Scroll is a movie that might not be for all viewers, but I guess that is a perception based on where one comes from. In Ninja Scroll there are many explicit scenes, both gory and sexual. The main character of the movie, Jubei Kibigami, I believe was a samurai though from the movie, it may be perceived that he was a ninja. Jubei seemed to be a very genuine, respectable man. He seemed to be a man of honor, integrity, and truth. Though, in this movie Jubei is swindled into working for a monk named Dakuan. Dakuan, a spy for the government, poisons Jubei and basically tells him that the only way to be saved from the poison is to work for him. Jubei is not much of a fan of the government, but goes simply because it is the only option he has. Jubei must go on a journey and defeat The Eight demons of Kimon who work under Gemma. The other demons consist of Benisato, Mushizo, Majuro Utsutsu, Shijima, Yurimaru, Zakuro. In the past, it was Gemma who betrayed the shogun and Jubei had decapitated Gemma. On this journey of defeating the Eight Demons, Kagero accompanies Jubei and becomes his comrade. Kagero is a female ninja who Jubei meets. In the beginning, Jubei comes to assist Kagero when she was attacked by one the first demon, Tessai. Though, it is Kagero’s poisonous body that truly kills Tessai. The dangerous aspect of Kagero is that anyone who kisses, bites, or does anything else sexual with her, will die.  Because of this aspect, Kagero does not have a lot of self respect it seems for herself. She is not able to make love with anyone or able to have any sexual intimacy with anyone either. I personally became very bothered with her throughout the movie, because she did not have any respect for herself.  I understand that she was not treated well just like all the other women throughout the movie, though I feel like just because she could not give anything sexual to a person, she found herself as worthless. A woman should not base her worth on her body and the ability to give anything physical to a person. Anyways, by the end the demons are all defeated. It is ironic, because all of the demons seem to die because of their own deeds or sins. Also, in the end Kagero dies because Gemma pierces her with his sword through her chest. Though, before she dies Jubei kisses Kagero and this saves him from the poison.  Jubei and Gemma fight in the end, and Jubei is victorious.

I was a bit sad with the way the movie ended, but it was a good movie nonetheless.

  1. I understand your frustration with Kagero. I can not stand when women think the only way they can be worth something is if they put out. What other women are you talking about that were not treated well? It seems like the other two women were treated better than Kagero. You said the demons died because of their own sin, what d you think Yurimaru's sin was to be betrayed and killed by a comrade? A comrade who supposedly loves him? Do you think she truly loved him or just his fine uke body? We both know Yurimaru would be the uke and Gemma the seme, he (Gemma) is just so much more sturdy than Yurimaru. Since you vehemently disbelieve that there would be a yaoi scene in the movie, what do you think would have happened between Gemma and Yurimaru on the ship if Zakuro would have died instead of Yurimaru? I really want to know what you think! (P.S. I think you need to cite where you got your pictures)

  2. Ahhh, the movie didn't show much respect for the women in general, in my opinion. And Yurimaru's sin was probably envy! And yes, fine, I will admit there was a triangle in the movie!

And, I linked it with the picture. If you hover your mouse over the picture, the link pops up.
