Montealegre - Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is based on the anime series Cowboy Bebop, of course. This film is internationally known movie. Though, the original title of the movie is actually, Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door. The creator changed the name due to copyright reasons.
Well, just like in the anime series, the main character is Spike Spiegel. The usual characters from the series are in the movie as well, such as Faye Valentine, Jet Black, Ed, and you cannot forget Ein. Though, there are also a couple of new characters who are introduced in this movie as well, such as Electra, Vincent, and Rashid. Vincent is seen as the villain character in this movie, though he was experimented on and it appears that he has lost his memories.
In the beginning of the movie, Faye is the first to encounter Vincent, but only from afar. Spike and Jet don’t give Faye much credit at first, but in reality this encounter sparks everything else. The group is trying to get a hold of Vincent for the sake of the bounty.  Vincent has a deadly plot to release a virus to the people. Vincent has these numerous little tiny balls that appear to be marbles. Within the marbles is the virus. Spike finds a man named Rashid in what seems to be a Moroccan Market. He asks for “beans”, and Rashid takes him to a random shop, and gives him a vase. Spike does not realize at first, but Ed finds that a marble that was given to him within the vase. This is when Spike starts putting the pieces together.  Spike meets a lady named Electra- Electra is an agent that was set out to take care of Vincent. The viewers later find out in the movie that Electra and Vincent were once lovers. We find this out when Spike and Electra are in jail together, in separate cells. The two are back to back blocked by a wall. Spike and Electra have an intimate moment, sharing things they have never shared with anyone else. Spike and Electra find a way to escape. Vincent plans on making a scene on Halloween and he plans on releasing the virus. Spike finds him and they fight hand to hand and with guns. Finally, Electra catches up to them, and shoots Vincent. Electra has in mind that Vincent and she would go together, but Vincent did not shoot.  Vincent suddenly recalled the memories he had of her. He realized that the happiest moments of his life, were the moments with her.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. I had only seen a couple of episodes of the anime series, but I actually hope to watch the anime in its entirety.

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog on the movie Cowboy Bebop. You managed to sum up the movie very well. Reading your blog made me feel like I was watching the movie all over again. You mention the part at the end where Electra killed Vincent in what looked like the Eiffel Tower. I had almost forgotten about that part. I still don’t understand when Vincent finally remembered Electra. Was it before or after she shot him? I guess it really doesn’t matter, he remembered and that’s all that important. The end was sadder than I thought it would be. I expected him to shoot just like Electra thought. I kind of wanted them to both die so they could be together. At least Vincent found peace. He realized that there was no door, and that he once was happy. I’ve never seen the serious, but after all this I really want to. I’m looking forward to watching it in class.

    1. Vincent didn't shoot Electra because he finally remembered her. So, he must have remembered Electra sometime before she shot him. I can't tell/remember if he remembers her right before she shoots him, or if he had some revelation during the movie.

I'm looking forward to watching the series with the class too, I think it will be fun!

  2. The summery was very good. What are your thoughts on the relationship between Spike and Electra? Do you feel as if Spike shows his conflicting personality in the movie well? How do you think Spike would do and feel if he is truly alone without Jet or Faye to worry over him? I think the relationship he builds with the Bebop crew means a great deal to him, and even he does not show it, I think he really cares about them. I really like Ein too, he his so cute with his high intelligence.
